Then get into Rope Climb Technique Work
Strength/skill
Work through the following progressions as a class, spending meaningful time at each variation and moving athletes toward a reliable footlock and controlled descent before they encounter rope climbs inside "Cloud Cover." The goal of this block is not volume; it is building a repeatable, efficient technique that holds up under fatigue. Athletes who are not yet completing full rope climbs should prioritize a confident footlock at a low height and a controlled lower rather than attempting full ascents with poor mechanics.
Progressions:
Rope Climb Descents
Rope Climb Footlocks
Modifications:
Level 1: Spend the block on pull to stand, footlock practice at low height, and controlled descent work; prioritize the lockout and descent before adding height

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
Consistent pacing across all five sets, with the last set never being the slowest.
SECONDARY OBJECTIVE
Rope Climbs completed in under 1:00 per set and Toes to Bar held in big, unbroken sets throughout.
Workout Strategy
"Cloud Cover" is a pacing workout disguised as a sprint, and the 3:00 interval gives athletes a deceptive amount of room to go out too hot. Start conservative in round one: smooth rope climbs with a locked foot-lock, efficient Box Jump Overs keeping the feet low and close to the box, and Toes to Bar in one or two large sets with a consistent kip rhythm. The goal is to finish every set by the 2:00 mark and use the remaining :60 to recover, breathe, and walk back to the rope with composure. Athletes who sprint round one and start breaking their Toes to Bar too often are going to need to adjust by round 5. Rope climbs are the anchor of each round; protect that skill by not arriving at the rope with shattered forearms from a reckless first interval. Settle in, hold the standard, and let round five be the fastest set of the day.
Movement Modifications
Rope Climbs: Reduce to 2 per set or adjust height to 12-14ft / Pull to Stand / Rope Lowers / Strict Pull-Ups
Box Jump Overs: Reduce height / Step-over variation
Toes to Bar: Reduce reps / Toes to Target / Alternating Toes to Bar / Hanging Knee Raises / V-Ups / GHD Sit-Ups
